Not All Christians Support Donald Trump

Amid the unfolding legal drama against former President Donald Trump in Fulton County, Georgia, a clarion call is echoing from the Christian community nationwide. This collective voice underscores a significant point: not all Christians align with Trump, nor do they view faith as a political monolith.

Faithful America, a robust network of grassroots Christians dedicated to social justice, is spearheading this dialogue. Their petition, gathering over 19,000 signatures, sincerely thanks Fulton County District Attorney Fani T. Willis, Department of Justice Special Counsel Jack Smith, and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. The accolade is for “leading thorough and impartial investigations, following the facts, defending democracy, and upholding the equal rule of law.”

Rev. Nathan Empsall of Faithful America crystallizes this collective emotion, stating, “As Christians who believe in truth, peace, and justice, we welcome these indictments with heavy hearts for democracy but gratitude for the equal rule of law and for the prosecutors and grand juries upholding it.”

The dialogue extends further, with Faithful America spotlighting Rev. Stephen Cliffgard Lee, an Illinois pastor indicted alongside Trump. In a passionate appeal, they urge the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod (LCMS) to reevaluate their association with Rev. Lee.

On this matter, Rev. Empsall shares, “Within the court of law, Rev. Lee is and should be innocent until proven guilty — but there is a difference between a criminal offense and a fireable offense. Our ordination confers a special level of spiritual and moral authority, and we must be careful to honor that trust.”

This narrative around Trump’s legal challenges and Faithful America’s stance paints a broader picture of the Christian community’s diverse beliefs and principles. Many are advocating for justice, truth, and democratic values above political alignments.
